That lady is back again! Sandal Singh plays her usual intriguing role in our new story—and she is so intriguing it is hard not to think of her as another Sala from Lee Falk’s early days! Could it be possible that Sandal, like Sala, is actually working against the Singh Brotherhood?
It may seem far fetched, but what is about to unfold in Blood Diamonds will leave you with a distinct feeling that if she is not already a double agent, she, like Sala, is so in love with The Phantom that she could easily be swayed! Blood Diamonds is a powerful drama, full of unexpected happenings and some equally dramatic action.
For Those Who Just Came In, Lee Falk gave Sala a starring role in his very first Phantom adventure, The Singh Brotherhood back in 1936, brought her character back in The Sky Band and Return of the Sky Band and then decided she was becoming so powerful and so popular that she threatened the appeal of Diana!
Sala was written out of Phantom stories at the end of Return of the Sky Band, never to return until she bobbed up again (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) in 1996 in The Phantom movie which starred Billy Zane.It may well be that a similar fate awaits Sandal Singh, because I sense that she is also becoming such a dominant figure that the Scandinavian creators may well decide to give her early retirement!
Stay tuned!
