This particular comic contains two such examples of Italian colour stories where the man in red had to be given a quick splash of purple to help him blend into the Australian Phantom readers’ sense of normality.
Our first story is a reading from the chronicles of the 18th-century Phantom. It tells the tale of his battle with Rada Mandi and his gang of pirates. The gallant rescue of a maiden in distress that led to pyrotechnics to rival our own New Year’s Eve display! Appropriately titled “The Island of Rada Mandi”. There is also an interesting little prose story in here which Phantom Wiki has listed as “A Fool in the Jungle”
Finally, we have a young love story that goes pair-shaped due to prejudice and inter-tribal bigotry. Such is the gloriously appropriate and way ahead-of-its-time message underlying “The Disappearance of Karina”. This is also accompanied by an action-packed drama in prose style, this time correctly titled “The Flood”.
